Biography

MARK GUARINO is a seasoned journalist with a strong background covering breaking news, local and national politics and culture.

In his career he has covered everything from breaking news to local/national politics to the world's greatest bands. He specializes in writing about music, film and visual art as well as news features that provide a human element to international headlines.

He is currently a staff writer for THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, covering the Midwest as well as national news and analysis, Monday through Friday for online (csmonitor.com) and the weekly print magazine.

Outside of his full-time duties, he is also a prolific freelancer. His byline appears in THE CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, MOJO, CHICAGO MAGAZINE, and MIDWEST LIVING. He has also written for JAZZ TIMES, PASTE, SPIN, BLURT, PEOPLE, NO DEPRESSION, HARP and many other print and online publications. Between 1997-2008 he covered the national and regional music scene as pop music critic for the CHICAGO DAILY HERALD.

He is a major contributor to Bakers Biographical Dictionary of Popular Musicians: Since 1990, published by Charles Scribner’s Sons.
